Assorted Ramblings

Today is a going to be a hodge-podge mismatched post. My hands have been in quite a few things lately and I want to share.

It’s that time of the year. School started back for me last week and with a few other things added to my plate, it’s gotten a bit busy around here. I actually haven’t been on my sewing machine in over a week. *GASP!* I know, its heartbreaking. But, I have been productive on the sewing/crafting front in other ways.

I finished Space Dust! I mentioned in my previous post that I was thinking about leaving the sides off; I did, and I love it.

Space Dust

Tula Pink Pattern and Fabrics

Its about 60″ x 60″. It will be large on my wall, but absolutely perfect. The colors do not do well photographing in this room. There is no natural light.  They are rich, vibrant, and very saturated colors. Right up my alley. My goal was to get it done before school started. I finished sewing the last row on at about 9pm the night before.

Ok, whats next.  Christmas! Well, not really, but kind of sorta.

Christmas Quilt

See, I have a few quilts that I want to enter into the quilt show in a couple of months and in order to do so, I need to get a TON of binding done.  This Christmas quilt, the saltwater quilt, and at this point, who else knows. I have about 7 I would love to enter but I am not superwoman. Unfortunately.

Those August evenings of 95 degree hotness when I didn’t want to be under a quilt were spent working on my Mario cross-stitch. Well, the hubby’s Mario cross-stitch.

That blue background is going to be the death of me

I had put this aside a while back because I needed a frame but wasn’t sure what to get. I stumbled upon this one and its absolutely perfect! Makes it so much easier and faster to stitch now. So, this one is back out. Plus, I am a sucker for all things Halloween and I just got a terrific Halloween cross-stitch that I really want to start. But, I have to finish this one first.

Next up, Instagram. I have never been in a Swap before and Instagram is full of them. I always miss the signups though so when this popped up I jumped on it and had Julie do the same. Swaps are a great way to stretch your comfort zone and not only get a great surprise in return, but get to make something wonderful for someone else.

Now, anyone who knows me knows that I can’t just do something halfway. Oh no, its all the way or no way. After signing up, the call than went out for volunteers to be Swap “Mama’s.” These are people who take a grouping of participants from the organizer and coordinate all of the swapping and partner details between them. Yep, yours truly signed up to do that also. But, it has been a blast so far! Partner assignments go out tomorrow and I am so excited to see who I am going to be making for and also to send out all my emails to my group so they can know the same!

Lastly, I made a purchase on Massdrop last month and I am glad I did. It was my first purchase from them and they were offering Patchwork Threads t-shirts at a really good discount.

If you are at all into sewing/quilting, you will love her site. These 2 make 3 total that I have. Hands down, the softest, most comfortable t-shirts I have ever bought. I love everything in her shop so if anyone would like to get me a gift of any kind, at any point, please head that way and pick up a size M crewneck shirt. 😉 I think the #sweatnsew tank is next up on my list of wants.

I think that’s all of the bits and pieces that I have for you this week. We have a road trip this weekend so I see lots of binding in my immediate future. Perfect opportunity.

Have a great holiday weekend and see you in September!

🙂

Quilting, Piecing, and some Space Dust

Sometimes I don’t know how to start off a blog post. Hi? Hi y’all? Hola? What’s up yo? What about just, Hello? Ok, Hello.

Whew, now that the awkwardness is behind us, lets move on to the good stuff. And I do mean good stuff. Because anything that begins or ends (or sings in the middle) of Tula Pink is all the goodness I need in life. And, this one ranks right up there. I got to spend the past weekend with Julie and on top of getting 8 Block of the Month blocks done, and 2 other backings, we got this ray of sunshine quilted.

I love this quilt. The colors. The design. So much so that I already have another one planned!

On the frame, being worked on

I just need to get binding made and then get it sewn down. Debating on putting this one in the Fall quilt show here in New Bern. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty dang awesome.

Moving on, but not really too far, is the QAL that I mentioned I was starting. It is being hosted on Instagram by John Adams and Paul Hallinger. The pattern is Space Dust by Tula Pink and I am using the same fabrics that she did in her original design. I have had them hoarded for a while not really knowing what I wanted to do with them. When I saw this happening, I knew it would be perfect.

Fabrics picked out, 45 page pattern ready to go

I sat down a couple of weeks ago and got my first row sorted and ready to go.

The whole quilt is paper pieced, which I am no stranger too, so I was able to whip up my first few blocks pretty quickly. I will say though, paper piecing with larger sized pieces is much harder than doing it with smaller squares. These bad boys end up being 7″ x 10″ each.

After getting the hang of this particular pattern, I was able to get 2 rows busted out in about a week.

I am almost done with Row 3 now and I can’t wait to get back to work on this one. The original pattern calls a LOT of extra white to be added to the sides to bring it to a large Queen size. I think I have decided that I am going to leave mine without the sides and make it into a wall hanging for my sewing room. It will be a very large one but how could all this Tula Pink fabric yumminess not be amazing as a backdrop for my new room??!!?

See you soon!

🙂
